CERT training began in Hanover in 2009 when the Hanover Fire/EMS department received a grant from FEMA to provide materials for the classes. Classes have been held annually since then, training more than 350 Hanover residents.
Hanover CERT is a member of the Emergency Management Alliance of Central Virginia with mutual aid assistance with Henrico County, Chesterfield County, and the city of Richmond.
The unit is currently a 501C4 non-profit organization under the IRS rules but looking to become a 501C3 non-profit organization.
The Hanover CERT unit has 50 members serving the county.
